Music By Madonna

Textual Analysis

Music by Madonna was released on the 21st August 2000, it was Madonna’s first song since 1994 to reach top of the charts in the United States.
The video starts of with a gold stretch limo, and the titles are made to look gold.

The Necked Shot is a mid short of Ali G (shah Baron-Cohen) sitting in the limo acting as Madonna’s driver and he is signing to him self, there is a slow cross pan and we see Madonna coming in to the short, she bends down and taps on the window, There is a close up of Ali G hand winding down the window, At this point Ali G says “As you Madonna” and there is a short reverse shot were Madonna says “are you my Driver” and then back to Ale G and he says “As you Madonna your babalons look less big on the telly but I still would”. At this point she gives him a CD and he starts to play it.
There is a cut were we see Ali G opening the limo dour to let here in, there is a whip edit followed by a cylinder wipe, and also there is a three split, then we see him running back to the drivers seat, at this moment of time the music is starting to develop.
The necked clip is a long short of the limo driving away down the high street. With a cross short of the limo driving with a point of view short of Ali G driving in very relaxed manner. The necked few shorts are of the limo driving with a number of different side on shorts and point of view shorts. As the beat becomes louder and louder there are is a title which come up from the bottom of the screen individually which says Music, the letters are made to look like gold, this allows the audience to get a better feeling for the music video.
We then go back to Madonna in the back of the limo, she is wearing a white Fehr coat and she is also wearing a lot of gold dually. Madonna at this point o string to portray a image of bling and being with it, (in real life she is actually pregnant at this point, this is one of the reasons she in the back of the limo instead of during here normal dance etc). The shorts are taken in two-second intervals from every think from a close up shot, to a long shot down the limo and then from a shot from above them. And then we go back to a mid short signing and the same stile of title comes up from the bottom of the screen saying Music.
The screen then splits in to two frames one with Madonna and the other one with a view from out side of eh limo and then we go back to seeing Madonna signing with a glass of campaign, there is a three split frames were there Is a close up of the glass of campaign and her breasts and her from a mid short. And one again there is a title, which comes up from the bottom of the screen saying Crazy.
With this music video there are a lot of fast edits but I feel a lot of the shorts are repeated which means I feel it make the video a little bit receptive. All of the titles, which come from the bottom of the screen, are in the same style but they are all in different coolers.
In the necked scean we see Madonna in a night club, this is a little controversial as we now that she pregnant at this stage, so It seems that’s she is trying to portend in the video she is not pregnant. In the club there is Ali G D Jaing and we see Madonna dancing with another women, the cinematography at this point there are lots and lots of different camera angels every thing from a birds eye view to a close up of Madonna’s face, the necked seen is of Madonna drinking around a round table with other people, once again I feel this is sending the wrong message to the audience as she is pretending to drink whilst been pregnant. In the disco there I a lot of very fast edits and stills of Ali G brake dancing and Madonna dancing and having a good time, most of these short were filmed as a mid shot. The mis-en-scen is in a night club so it is quite dark, with lots of random lighting, but it is bright enough to have a good view of the dancers and Madonna.
As Madonna leaves the nightclub there are still shorts of her going and getting back in the limo, and we go back to dancing in the back of the limo, In till the camera focuses on to the TV in the limo and every thing terns in to a animation.

In the animation Madonna is protrade as very thin and glitzy, she goes thro the roof of the limo and fly’s thro the sky, were we have a very long shot of her and her outer friends fling across the sky with the city underneath them, and then she comes back to earth and she fights some troll like characters, she then turns in a karate women are she kills them all, al of this, is all a little bit strange. She then goes on to destroy the city but all of this is still animation. She then dives in to a cocktail drink were the music is head as though it was being played thro water. As she comes out of the cattail she meet Ali G dejaing and she pusses him of the way and Madonna starts to dj instead, this is still in animation. She then falls from the sky back in to the limo, in the limo there is a camera pull from the TV in the limo to Madonna this is one of the ways they make it clear we are coming out of the animation in to real life. Madonna carry on signing in till Ali G turns down the music, this is done as a close up short of his hand pressing the volume button, at this point we hear Madonna saying “what are u doing”, and Ali G says “yow Madonna you no when you do your necked single can I be in it because as well good at raping” and then he starts signing to him self in till Madonna says “please stop can u put my music back on” Ali G responds and says “for real respect”. We then have the same short as before with his hand turning up the music, the music at this point goes back to full volume and we start to hear the last phase of the song, the necked seen is the limo parks up at a club and Aly G opens the door and Madonna gets out this is filmed as a long shot, she walks with the beat past the bouncers and in to the club, Aly G try’s to do the same and he gets stopped, in the club there a poll dancers and a general sexy atmostfear, Madonna is seen to be having a grate time, there is a cross cut of Ali G getting friendly with bouncer , Madonna starts to play with the poll dansers once again I feel this is sending the wrong impression but this is how she wont s to portrayed. All of the shorts are very fast and mostly filmed at a mid short, there is a star wipe and it leads to Madonna leaving the club and also the screen is split in to two with Ali G hugging the bouncer. And we see the limo driving of across the short in the limo there is a massive part with stripers and campaign and of course Ali G how is meant to be driving, the camera is designed to be a pov so we see Madonna signing as well as seeing the rest of the girls, there is another star wipe and the is two girls standing thro the sun roof driving thro the city and then back to the stripers and Madonna in the back of the limo, then a title Acid rokes in blue lettering , after this we go stills of inside the limo from Madonnas breasts to the stripers etc, then we come back to Ali G how has two girls in the front and he says “has aney of you girls been to England is you wont to see the real big Ben I. ow well ill show you” the end

Over all it is a very good video, and has so many cross references to other things. Madonna is portrayed that she is not pregnant and that’s how she wanted to portrayed. I liked the computer animation and I also liked the music but I did fined the filming a little but two repetitive.

What’s our audience like?

Well to start with is our audience not strictly definable, people that listen to our kind of music could be Blingers, Trackies, Chavs, Trendies, Boy Racers, Hipsters, Raversm Scene Kids, and Craft Kids. However I would say quite straight forward that Emos, Metalheads, Skaters, Young Alts, Gamers and Geeks are rather listening to other genres, as the one we represent.
As well does the gender have quite a big influence on our audience; therefore I split the audience definition into female and male.
Our average targeted female audience member would:
-       Be between 16-25 years old
-       Straight/lesbian/bisexual
-       Be single/relationship
-       Have no children
-       Live probably in a city or bigger town
-       Listen to a wide range of music, however House Music when she is going out
-       Invest her money in outfits and fun time with friends
-       Be often online, to be up to date
-       Surf on facebook, youtube, skype
-       Watch programmes like Entourage, One Tree Hill, Gossip Girl, but could be spread further as well
-       Read magazines like ELLE, Vogue, Glamour, Cosmopolitan
-       Love trendy brands
-       Look after her body, healthy food-less fast food
-       Sometimes smoke weed

Our average targeted male audience member would:
-       Be between 17-26
-       Straight/gay/bisexual
-       Be single/relationship
-       Have no children
-       Live probably in a city or bigger town
-       Listen to mainly chart music
-       Invest his money in fun times with friends, outfits, his business idea (if he has one)
-       Be often online, to be up to date
-       Surf on facebbok, youtube, skype,
-       Watch programmes like Entourage, One Tree Hill, Top Gear, but could be spread further as well
-       Read magazines like FHM, Men’s Health, GQ

Mood board

Our mood board should represent what we already described in tasks before, the style of a celebrating orientated youth that is often under influence of stimulants .
The words in big letters are representing their opinion, like "I'll do anything" or "Never Hide", what is original from a Ray Ban advert, but fits good in our genre too.
Another aspect is that we decided to create one side in black and white and the other one in really bright colors with a high contrast, because we thought about filming our film in black and white, and colored. That highlights in my eyes the altitude parts of a video.
As well are there some famous faces of the Swedish House Mafia (SHM), because they were mainly influencing us, thats the reason as well, why there is the big eye, a part of the Swedish House Mafia song "One". That is a link to the video, as well as the words "Dirty Talk" a song remixed by Laidback Luke, that is going in the same direction/genre like we want to.
Finally there are the celebrating people with their hands in the air and just enjoying their free time, but as noticeable are they holding alcohol in their hands, what is nowadays a normal feature on a fun night - Alcohol, that is why we have a funky green bottle and on the mood board and vodka, representing youth and the normal dealing with alcohol.
