- There needs to be a relation between the image and the lyric
- There needs to be a relation between the image and the music
- The genre needs to be represented in both, the song (music & lyric) and the images
- There need to be lots of close ups of the main artist, to satisfy the record companies
- There is voyeurism in lots of the videos that need to be treated carefully
- It is likely that there are textual references to other music videos to provide further pleasure of the viewer.
We managed to meet the first point of Andrew’s theory well, as Madonna sings ‘music makes the people come together’ (0:47) people are shown hugging each other and having a good time. In (0:57) Madonna sings ‘music mix the bourgeoisie and the rebels, what basically means it mixes the classes, as the image shows a girl drinking champagne. In (2:05) Madonna sings ‘hey mister DJ put a record on I wanna dance with my baby’ while in the video you see people dancing together, boys with girls but even more modern - girls with girls and boys with boys. Additionally on the right in the picture there is a DJ scratching the vinyls.
In (2:13) we managed to meet Andrew’s second point and the image in concrete relation to the music – the lights go on and off with the beat.
I think as well, that we met our stereotype with the visuals as well as with the lyric - the only importance is to go out and have a good time doesn’t matter if with a different class. That is actually what I experienced when I have been filming for our video on new years eve in a club, different people came together and the only importance is to have a good time and enjoy – that is what everyone has been living that night and I think that is the impression the filming expresses.
Well we don’t have a lot of close-ups of our main actor but the beginning of the videos introduces the actors extendedly and do stick to the night club atmosphere we decided not to cut in close-ups of our main actors.
Due to this being our first video we don’t have the chance to make any references to other videos we made before, but we made reference to the genre with our mise-en-scene, like ‘One’ by SHM. Additionally I think we didn’t show any person in an inappropriate way in terms of too much naked skin and we have been treating voyeurism with respect.
